Time. Alrighty, we're ready to go. Brianna Lucero. 00:01:01
Breaking Bad. 00:01:06
Habits, New Mexico Ambassador. 00:01:09
All righty. Good evening Mayor Bhaskar and members of the council. 00:01:14
My name is Brianna Lucero and I currently go to Socorro High School. 00:01:18
This year, I'm Socorro County's Land of Enchantment young ambassador. 00:01:23
Which is a part of the statewide Youth Leadership Program supported by the NMDOT. 00:01:26
And the governor's office. 00:01:31
That focuses on preventing litter. 00:01:33
Promoting community pride and encouraging youth involvement in service. 00:01:35
I recently attended my first meeting in Santa Fe and look forward to working with all of you to support cleanup and beautification 00:01:40
efforts throughout our beautiful county. 00:01:44
Right now I'm in the planning stage and would really appreciate any guidance from the council on areas that could benefit. 00:01:49
From cleanups or ways that I can best support ongoing efforts? 00:01:54
With your direction, I hope to organize community and Roadside Clean. 00:01:57
Youth Outreach. 00:02:01
Literature, education, and partnerships with local schools and organizations. 00:02:02
Thank you so much for your time and for supporting youth leadership. 00:02:07
I'm proud to serve so Coral County. 00:02:10
Well, congratulations. Yeah, that's great. How do you get that position? 00:02:12
Thank you. 00:02:16
Well, I had to do um. 00:02:18
It was a big what's the enrollment process? So I had to submit an application, I had to submit a resume and just a cover letter 00:02:20
and resume. 00:02:23
Pretty much just what my qualifications are, past leadership roles I've had and. 00:02:28
It there was it was a big competition. 00:02:33
So. 00:02:35
13 other ambassadors were selected. 00:02:37
And I think. 00:02:40
120. 00:02:41
Candidates ran and so I was chosen out of. 00:02:43
The 13 Congratulations Well, we want to make your. 00:02:46
Ambassadorship. 00:02:51
Successful we have. The city has. 00:02:53
A state grant. 00:02:55
Which is the calendar grant. 00:02:57
And I think. 00:02:59
We should. 00:03:00
Get her with them. 00:03:01
And you can help. 00:03:02
Coordinate some of those activities like you said. 00:03:03
Is a cleanup grant. 00:03:06
And oh, speaking OK, Linda. 00:03:08
Lindo so. 00:03:12
This gentleman. 00:03:14
Do you know him? 00:03:15
Yes, yes. How do you know him? 00:03:16
So do you know this is? 00:03:19
Huggies granddaughter, right? 00:03:20
Oh, OK, yeah. 00:03:23
Microphone up a little bit. 00:03:26
So we met her through the dot. 00:03:28
That's doing the grant. 00:03:31
The beautiful case, they kind of go together. That's wonderful. Yeah. So she told us we had an ambassador in Squirrel County and 00:03:32
we asked Target to get us in contact and we met and we talked some things over and. 00:03:38
I think we're going to work together and yeah, Brienne, so. 00:03:44
Maybe you can. 00:03:47
You know if you can. 00:03:48
Kind of put your activities together with them. I think you can. 00:03:49
Kind of build on that. 00:03:52
Yeah. And if you can get some of the students involved and we even, there's even money involved that they can. 00:03:54
Get paid for cleanup. 00:03:59
Find some spots, even if they live around their houses. 00:04:01
You can maybe ask for. 00:04:04
Suggestions from areas that they perhaps live in that need to be cleaned up. 00:04:06
That's that's wonderful that you got that. 00:04:10
That's great. 00:04:12
So congratulations. Thank you. Will you have time to do that? 00:04:14
Yeah, well, you're, you're a senior or. 00:04:19
I'm a I'm a junior junior, have another year my. 00:04:21
My leadership with the ambassador. 00:04:26
It ends in May or June. It ends in June, so I have a couple months to. 00:04:30
You know, do some projects and cleanups and so, well, yeah, I think and you can get the word out and if you're going to pass the 00:04:35
baton to somebody else. 00:04:38
We want to make sure that we continue this. 00:04:42
Yes, yes, definitely. 00:04:44
And she's also your 202526, so coral. 00:04:46
Bear Queen. Great. Wow, congratulations for that. 00:04:50
Thank you. 00:04:54
Also unbelievable. Paul Bolter. 00:04:58
Yeah. 00:05:01
Get that from her resume. 00:05:04
Huggy huggy, talk about the bubble. 00:05:06
Oh wait. Oh my God. 00:05:08
I shouldn't have even opened my mouth. 00:05:12
So congratulations, Huggy. I mean, that's great. 00:05:16
That's great. 00:05:19
That you're doing that anyone else who is not on the just ma'am. 00:05:20
This is so related. I am Christy Smith and the Vice President of the Save Our Boski Task Force. 00:05:28
Which cleans up. 00:05:35
And helps manage the five Socorro parks. 00:05:36
Otero up the confluence. 00:05:40
And we? 00:05:42
Arrange for eradication of invasive species. 00:05:43
Planting of. 00:05:46
Native species. And then I organized the park. 00:05:48
Pickups. So every the first the second Saturday of every month. 00:05:51
We go, we pick up. 00:05:54
Trash of tarot and then the other parts there. 00:05:56
And people just volunteer, and I have. 00:05:59
But I was. 00:06:01
Coming tonight. 00:06:02
Now I come once in a while anyway, but. 00:06:03
To find out who's running the K Linda so. 00:06:05
I could. 00:06:07
Program so we could maybe get together go. 00:06:08
And so try to get more people because we get. 00:06:10
You know between 5 to 10 people a month to come to Otera, depending on the weather. 00:06:13
And then we move up and sometimes there's large pieces of trash and. 00:06:17
Washers and sofas and then the mid rear Grand Conservation District will come. 00:06:20
And they will actually haul the big stuff for us, but we have to haul away the regular trash. 00:06:24
And how long is this grant for this Kay, Linda? 00:06:29
100 and huh? 00:06:32
So like once a month they'll have dumpsters and places is that? 00:06:34
But they're, yeah, they've got it done by the. 00:06:37
By the Borrow pit over there on Lopezville right now. 00:06:39
And then February is going to be different and it's getting cleaned up. 00:06:42
There's a lot of cleanup going on. If you want to contact me, I usually put in the paper. It's there the second Saturday of the 00:06:46
month. We made Otero at about 10:00 PM. 00:06:50
Thank you. 00:06:55
Thanks for your. 00:06:55
Thanks for your work at the bus key. 00:06:57
Mr. Salih. 00:07:01
Have a quick question with regard to you. 00:07:02
The landfill and cleanups. 00:07:04
We're not taking. 00:07:06
Tires at the landfill at this point, are we? 00:07:08
So, So what? 00:07:11
What kind of effect does that have on the community? 00:07:13
Are we going to see? 00:07:16
A lot of tires there on the. 00:07:17
On the I know tarot outside. 00:07:19
By the river, we're going to see tires and vacant properties and. 00:07:23
They're going to cost C. 00:07:27
Money to pick up those tires. 00:07:29
Have we investigated the fact that? 00:07:33
We might need to take tires now. 00:07:35
Storm or we'll pick them up later because. 00:07:38
They're coming. 00:07:42
And they're, they're young. 00:07:44
Yeah, they're signs saying that there's no What do you have on there that you can? 00:07:45
Put in there. 00:07:50
Darrell Come. 00:07:51
Sorry about that. There are signs that would be placed on the dumpsters that will say no metal. 00:08:03
No tires, no electronic equipment. 00:08:08
Of course people can't read. 00:08:11
So that's why I think. 00:08:13
Councillor Salome is thinking. 00:08:15
That might just come and start dumping stuff. Yeah, well, I mean. 00:08:17
It's it's it's. 00:08:20
Fair to say that that's probably what's going to happen. 00:08:22
I think there was a study done that there was there's one tire for every. 00:08:24
Is that what it is? Doctor Vessel? What is the the ratio for people that live in the community or in the county? 00:08:31
The year 1 tire per person. 00:08:37
Almost I heard it. 00:08:39
What are we charging for tires, Mike? 00:08:41
Yeah, no, I mean it's a big problem and. 00:08:45
I think there's tires like I've seen stockpiles. 00:08:48
I won't say exactly where, but there's one on the front of the road. There's a bunch of stuff about the stockpile. 00:08:51
There's one, of course, at the county. 00:08:57
There's people stockpiling cars waiting for it to. 00:08:59
Get rid of them somehow. 00:09:02
Right now we're. 00:09:04
We're charging the dollar of passenger tire. 00:09:05
$5 for a semi tire. 00:09:07
We're in the process of getting my machine, my baler fixed. 00:09:11
Of course, we can only build so many tires. 00:09:14
We're building the entire Burma once we get to the end of that. 00:09:17
To the end of the row. 00:09:20
Then we're stuck with. 00:09:22
Thousands, I mean thousands of players. 00:09:23
So we're in the process around looking to try to find a tire shredder. 00:09:25
Like I mentioned in. 00:09:29
The future. The past meetings. 00:09:30
Yeah. So we can do to. 00:09:33
We can shred them, then we can use them. It'll benefit the city. 00:09:35
In the landfill to. 00:09:38
Use it as cover material. We can cover our garbage with it. 00:09:39
So that's the. 00:09:42
Excuse me, Mr. Mayor, the grant for the tire store, I believe either opens in March or April, but we're trying to find it. It's 00:09:45
about what, 900,000? 00:09:49
To buy one. 00:09:54
About 800,000 / 1, yes. 00:09:55
Not a used one. No. Better be Brandon. 00:09:58
I I would the other thing I would recommend and you can. 00:10:01
Take or leave it, but. 00:10:05
I put a game camera out there. 00:10:07
Where you have your. 00:10:09
Your stuff with a dump. 00:10:11
And just put it somewhere. 00:10:14
And then you can always move it wherever you move it to. 00:10:16
And at least and put a sign saying this is being videoed. 00:10:19
You have to do that. 00:10:22
I think it might. 00:10:24
Deter some people from come, there will be people dumping. 00:10:25
And in a way, that was the idea is people. 00:10:28
From dumping it. 00:10:31
Where there shouldn't be. 00:10:32
If we start collecting tires, that's going to be a big problem. 00:10:34
Well, when they you and you're right, people don't know how to read. 00:10:37
As we get the dumpsters at the left field and that's slowed with everything and there we are separating everything. 00:10:40
But they're not that expensive. I would I'd suggest you get one of those game cameras and. 00:10:45
Put it in a. 00:10:50
Place and also make sure you write on there that this is being videoed. 00:10:52
But I think it might deter, it may deter some people. 00:10:56
Yes ma'am, and there are some shredders that. 00:11:01
That will grind everything. I mean furniture. 00:11:04
Mattresses. 00:11:07
Even. 00:11:08
All kinds of stuff. Oh yeah, except for the metals. Evidence. We bought the Sambar Boski Task force bought a bunch of tires. 00:11:10
Some tires on some cameras some years ago. 00:11:16
And that it's got torn down, the batteries got taken. 00:11:20
Like they didn't always get. 00:11:23
That get broken but the batteries would get taken. 00:11:24
And then the. 00:11:26
Cameras will disappear. And it was. 00:11:28
I don't know. I forget somebody actually paid for them. It wasn't even our budget. 00:11:30
One of the board members, so I'm not sure about. 00:11:33
Humans, but good luck with that. 00:11:35
I said take it or leave it. 00:11:38
Anyway, thank you gentlemen. 00:11:43
But thank you, you guys are doing I mean. 00:11:45
You got to start somewhere. 00:11:47
And you're going to have some problems along the way, there's no question about it. 00:11:48
Another reason we have to stop taking tires at times is because we have too many out there. 00:11:53
And it's a violation of our. 00:11:57
License to run the landfill. 00:11:59
Sophie So if the EPA stops by and we have say 200 tires and one pile. 00:12:02
Sir. 00:12:08
If anybody remembers the tire fire. 00:12:13
Yeah, OK. Anyone else? 00:12:15
Make a comment. 00:12:18
That's not on the agenda. 00:12:20
All righty, then we'll move right along. We have a Little League baseball agreement. 00:12:23
Who wants to tackle that one? 00:12:28
I see somebody here from Little League. 00:12:31
There's a step there if you want to step up. You know I might need that. 00:12:38
So I want to thank you guys for having us. 00:12:43
I want to introduce myself. My name is Tracy Romero, so I'm the Vice President of. 00:12:46
Our new upcoming Little League of Socorro. I'm also the head coach of the softball at the high school. 00:12:51
We are bringing Little League back to Socorro. 00:12:58
We're going to start. 00:13:01
Up in March. 00:13:03
Already. Umm. 00:13:04
So it's a big thing that we're bringing and we wanted to bring back and we're getting that done. 00:13:05
I do want to say a huge thank you, Mayor. 00:13:10
And to the city of Socorro, Michael, for the help that the city brings, has already brought to us. 00:13:13
And is helping us with. So I want to say a huge thank you because. 00:13:18
Sometimes people don't realize that the city helps. 00:13:22
So much in these sports. 00:13:25
But we are bringing that back. 00:13:27
And like I said. 00:13:29
Registration is open. 00:13:30
Are ready and we're taking registrations until February 27th. 00:13:32
We're having our beginning practices. 00:13:37
March 7th. 00:13:40
With our open opening day on April 11. 00:13:41
Opening day will be April 11th. We're going to do a parade like we used to for Little League and have the kids out there in their 00:13:45
uniforms and. 00:13:49
So I think will be our second week into games. 00:13:52
But we just ask and we thank you for using the fields. 00:13:56
We've had our directors come out and they say how nice our fields are and we're lucky to have the fields that we do have. 00:13:59
So we do appreciate it. 00:14:06
But we're bringing that back with addition. 00:14:08
To bringing Little League back. 00:14:10
We have our major, our regular baseball divisions. 00:14:13
As well as we are bringing softball. 00:14:16
Literally comes with softball. 00:14:19
So we have our softball divisions. 00:14:20
And as well as baseball and. 00:14:23
Softball, We are also adding the Challenger division. 00:14:24
And so our goal is to bring a safe and positive. 00:14:28
Program that's also a feeder program, but a program just to get kids out there. 00:14:32
And get it running and get them nice and healthy and give them something good to do. 00:14:38
Our Challenger division is new to Little League. 00:14:41
What that is, is that is it's adaptive baseball. 00:14:45
So if you have a physical. 00:14:48
Or intellectual disability. 00:14:50
That's where Challenger. 00:14:52
We're ready and we have people that are willing to come and. 00:14:54
And play us and and we travel and play them as well. 00:14:57
So it really we're just looking to bring a program that fits all our. 00:15:00
All our kids and our community and do something positive with the. 00:15:03
With the kiddos in our community. So again, but. 00:15:06
I really want to. 00:15:09
Push that. We thank you guys for letting us use the facilities. 00:15:11
And thank you for everything that that you guys let us do for the. 00:15:14
Tracy, what does it cost for? 00:15:19
Kids to join. 00:15:21
So our registration fee is $65 per child. 00:15:23
It's $65 per child. 00:15:26
Now for the Challenger division, it does not cost anything. 00:15:29
So for Challenger division, it's. 00:15:32
0 cost for registration, but for any other division it is $65. 00:15:34
And how do people register? 00:15:39
So you can jump on Little League. 00:15:41
Org umm. 00:15:43
There's the corallittleleague.org. 00:15:45
We do have a Facebook post we're trying to. 00:15:47
To go on social media and put that there. 00:15:49
We are pushing the Flyers in the backpacks. 00:15:52
So that they can take them home as well. 00:15:55
And I know we are going to set up a date. 00:15:57
Coming soon. 00:16:00
Maybe this weekend and another one. 00:16:01
For people that can't register online. 00:16:03
That we can help register them. 00:16:05
For them. 00:16:07
And get them registered. 00:16:08
Like together, you know? 00:16:10
Because not everybody has a computer. 00:16:11
What ages are they? 00:16:14
So I believe we're taking 3 and up. 00:16:16
3 to 16. 00:16:20
Typically is what's in the programs. 00:16:22
Could you? Mm-hmm. 00:16:24
Thank you, Mr. Mayor. 00:16:26
Question. Thanks for. 00:16:28
Thanks for doing this, Tracy. I know. 00:16:31
How much work it is so? 00:16:34
What is the? 00:16:35
So your your start date's March. What is your end date? 00:16:36
Typically. 00:16:39
So I believe. 00:16:41
I believe we're ending the end of May. 00:16:43
I believe. 00:16:45
Because what we do also is what brings that interleague play. 00:16:48
So again, the baseball and softball depending on our registration of course. 00:16:52
We really don't know what we're looking at as far as how many we get. 00:16:58
Registered UMM. 00:17:01
But umm. 00:17:02
They get they get a chance to go to the All Stars. 00:17:03
So All Stars is where they get to. We get to play Belen, Las Lunas and we get to play those other teams and get some different. 00:17:06
Different play in there with other. 00:17:12
With other teams. 00:17:14
And what is the? 00:17:16
Typical. 00:17:18
Schedule look like. 00:17:19
For with the inner like in Socorro, similar to the way the City League was where we. 00:17:21
Similar form teams and play here and then. 00:17:26
So it depends. So again, it depends on registration. 00:17:29
So like for instance, a softball. 00:17:32
Softball we have low in numbers just in general with girls coming out to play. 00:17:35
So if we don't have enough. 00:17:40
For softball. 00:17:42
They either have the opportunity to join another team, stay in Berlin. Berlin is our closest friend. 00:17:43
In Little League. 00:17:48
So if we don't have enough numbers, then they have the option to play on one other teams. 00:17:49
And then if we only have say enough like we have 9 for a. 00:17:54
A softball team here. 00:17:58
Then we will interleague and we will play Berlin, we will play Los Lunas. 00:17:59
So maybe. 00:18:03
One weekend we will play here. 00:18:04
The next weekend we will play in Berlin. 00:18:06
We'll then play here. 00:18:09
When we can go out to Las Munas. 00:18:10
So it just again it depends on the numbers that we get from registrations. 00:18:12
I'm gonna. That makes sense. 00:18:16
And lastly the I think it's. 00:18:19
Really good that you're doing this and you enable it looks like you're. 00:18:21
Are hitting this thing up in your. 00:18:24
The business, yeah, of a group of. 00:18:26
People who care about baseball, we've talked about that in the past and in order for the. 00:18:29
I think that you coach high school, so in order to. 00:18:33
Have success at the next level. You got to have a good theater program. It's not that the city didn't have a good theater program. 00:18:36
I think they're they're placed in this. 00:18:40
Our place and that was just to give kids opportunity, right? Not absolutely, necessarily baseball. 00:18:44
Whereas Little League's more baseball focused and I think especially critical for the girls to have an opportunity to learn. 00:18:48
Softball at a young age, it's much different than baseball for them. 00:18:55
I wish you the best of luck and thank you. Appreciate it. 00:18:59
Yeah. 00:19:03
So yeah, there is a T-Mobile grant. 00:19:07
It's ran every day I believe. 00:19:11
And so there are options for people that can't afford. 00:19:13
The Registration class. 00:19:17
The Little League itself. 00:19:18
Regionally. 00:19:20
They have a T-Mobile grant. 00:19:21
And so they will take cover or they'll take care of the registration. I think it's up to 600 or 800 per day. 00:19:23
But what people can do is go through that grant and see if they get selected to take care of the registration. 00:19:30
As well. 00:19:36
As that I mean. 00:19:37
There are ways there's people that are donating. 00:19:38
For people that can't afford registration as well. So there are options if people cannot afford it. 00:19:42
So there's the grant, and again there's also. 00:19:46
Sponsors and donators. 00:19:49
Mr. Accomplishment, I guess this question is for Mike so. 00:19:51
Is there then the city Little League as well or this is going to be 1 league? 00:19:54
OK, Yeah. 00:19:59
You know, because of. 00:20:01
Volunteers like yourself. 00:20:02
We've had. 00:20:04
Wrestling. Soccer. 00:20:05
Baseball and the city will help. 00:20:07
The first thing we're going to do is to. 00:20:11
Pay for their insurance. 00:20:13
Which is about $4200. 00:20:14
So hopefully that will defray some of the. 00:20:17
What's gonna be maybe $90.00 A? 00:20:20
A child maybe. It was dropped, hopefully down to 65. 00:20:22
It's going to take, it's going to take stress off of our budget. 00:20:27
For the time we spent and the things we do. 00:20:30
And if it wasn't for volunteers? 00:20:33
That's great. And so we want to do. 00:20:35
Then give them a. 00:20:37
Of finances to help them. 00:20:41
And so. 00:20:43
As they get more. 00:20:45
Kids involved. 00:20:46
We will help with that. We might even try to do some scholarships as. 00:20:48
Councillor Dean is asking about. 00:20:52
What about because people have 3 or 4 kids and their family and they got to pay? 00:20:54
$200, that's a lot. 00:20:58
And so. 00:21:00
That's something that we've talked about with. 00:21:01
Also, let's say Mr. Morales. 00:21:03
And so we're that's what we're asking the council to sign on with. 00:21:06
Is to get. 00:21:10
Program going and like we said. 00:21:11
Just as we've had. Great. 00:21:14
Volunteers for all these other sports that. 00:21:16
Basically takes the heat off of us as city. 00:21:19
That's great, Mr. Combo. 00:21:22
Yeah, I think, I think it's great to look into it, to look into this anything. 00:21:24
More for our. 00:21:28
Is awesome. I guess I have a. 00:21:31
Another question for Mike. 00:21:33
Because I know it's big in the summertime. 00:21:34
I know softball will still be there. 00:21:36
But uh. 00:21:38
Do we have like something else that we're going to offer kids in the summer? 00:21:39
When we were doing the. 00:21:43
The Little League. 00:21:44
Wrestling. 00:21:46
So we already have other sports that are going to ramp up in the summer for the kids that. 00:21:50
Swimming is swimming is big. 00:21:54
We support swimming a lot that they get. 00:21:56
I don't know what do we got? 00:21:59
There. But this is an I think. Thank you for doing this. I know it's hard. I know. I remember Lily a long time ago. 00:22:02
So you have to be careful with your finances and you have to always be. 00:22:10
Transparent and all that stuff because. 00:22:14
Parents and other people Speaking of transparent. 00:22:17
The parents can be pretty. 00:22:19
Pretty mean they've got a code of conduct they've got. 00:22:21
You know they've got it all. Little League is a. 00:22:24
A format. 00:22:27
And they're having to follow it because they have a district manager and a district. 00:22:29
Administrator and. 00:22:32
They even came and wanted to know. 00:22:33
Evacuation zones. 00:22:35
So we have evacuation zones in case something happens. 00:22:37
So they're they're they're. 00:22:40
Professional. 00:22:43
And that's super important. We just, again, we want it to be safe. I know we are even for our head coaches. 00:22:44
We are requiring CPR. 00:22:50
For our head coaches, and it's super important that we. 00:22:53
That it's safe for these kids, you know, we want them to be somewhere safe and have fun and have a positive. 00:22:56
I see does literally require background checks for delta? 00:23:01
Absolutely every single volunteer from your concession person running concession. 00:23:06
Anybody that's working with the kids has to have a background check. 00:23:10
And literally we we pay for that. 00:23:14
So we pay for those background checks for every volunteer. 00:23:16
But it's we do have to have background checks for every volunteer. 00:23:19
Again, it's to be the safest that we can. Our kids are everything. 00:23:22
And we're trying to, again, like he said, we have the code of conduct and we have all these rules that we are following, so. 00:23:25
You know, we have all these questions. 00:23:32
You know, for example, can this kid move from T-ball to? 00:23:34
Coach *****. Well, we have to evaluate that player and we have to. 00:23:38
We have to see. 00:23:41
And evaluate them and see if they're ready to move up, because it could be. 00:23:42
You know, I use my child as an example. 00:23:46
I'm with the board. 00:23:48
You know he's 7. 00:23:49
He can hit the ball. 00:23:51
Into the outfield. 00:23:52
But can you pay attention to a line drive coming at him at third base or second base? 00:23:53
Probably not, so I've left them in T-ball. 00:23:58
And so there's different things that we look at, but it's mainly just to keep everybody safe. 00:24:00
But like the mayor said. 00:24:04
What you guys are already doing with the insurance plan? 00:24:05
Cover is huge because that allowed us to drop our registration fee even more to 65. 00:24:08
So other leagues charged from 90 all the way up TO120550. 00:24:13
So it was. It was. 00:24:18
Crucial. Umm. 00:24:19
That we are allowed to do 65 and make it a little bit more possible and helpful for people. 00:24:20
So it makes a huge difference. 00:24:25
Tracy. 00:24:28
I was going to speak to that too. I don't think so has really ever felt the effects of like club sports. My kids did them and. 00:24:30
So I mean, I think there's been a few that have traveled outside of here, but Socorro itself, $65 although. 00:24:38
It's inexpensive what the city is to charge $20. 00:24:44
$65 for an entire season as per. 00:24:47
Yeah, it's that's. 00:24:51
Pretty minimal. I get it, it's a large increase, but I'm sure there's lots of. 00:24:53
People in the community. 00:24:56
Including people that sit here that would help. 00:24:57
The kids to make sure they're registered so. 00:24:59
Just communicate with us and see what we can do to help. 00:25:02
We appreciate you guys very much. 00:25:04
Mr. Ocampo. 00:25:06
I really think this springboards us into. 00:25:08
Getting our. 00:25:11
Recreation committee meeting again. 00:25:12
And so I think, Mary Ann, if we can get something together, I've got numerous community members that want to be on it. 00:25:13
OK. That would be a great time with all this going on. 00:25:18
And I have some as well. 00:25:21
And yeah. 00:25:23
This is an action item, so if you make a motion to accept. 00:25:24
One more question, I'm sorry. 00:25:28
Not to be long winded, Tracy. What is like? 00:25:30
What does it look like for like 6? 00:25:33
Security around there, like you got a game going on. 00:25:34
And I think the city employees kind of took care of that before to keep an eye on things and make sure things didn't get. 00:25:37
The college recruiters aren't recruiting the six year old and the dads aren't fighting each other. And what does that look like in 00:25:43
a little? 00:25:46
Scenario, yeah. 00:25:49
So there are rules that we follow. So we do have a safety officer. So Augusta Motto is our safety officer. 00:25:50
And as we speak, she's already come. 00:25:56
Coming up with a safety plan. 00:25:58
We do have to have a safety plan for. 00:26:00
For everything, I mean, you're talking. 00:26:02
About the A defibrillators, we're talking about first aid kits for every coach. 00:26:04
As far as people covering work, she's working that out as we speak, but as soon as she finalizes. 00:26:09
We can get that to you as you guys can look it over and check it out. 00:26:14
Thank you. 00:26:18
Of course. 00:26:19
Thank you to accept the. 00:26:20
I still move to the. 00:26:22
Seconded discussion. 00:26:24
All in favor. 00:26:26
Thank you guys. 00:26:28
All righty, we got a new business. New business. 00:26:33
I have, I don't know if it's new business, but. 00:26:36
We do have. 00:26:39
For livestock school. 00:26:41
Will be here in Socorro. 00:26:43
So there is going to be. 00:26:44
It'll be the Southern. 00:26:46
Half of a state that will come to the coral. 00:26:48
And we're working. 00:26:51
On that. 00:26:53
And then there is also a. 00:26:54
Huh. Where they? 00:26:57
We're we're discussing that. 00:26:59
Probably. 00:27:01
And over there in our area. 00:27:02
And and then there is going to be an Invitational archery shoot and that we're still working on that as well. 00:27:04
So all those sports. 00:27:11
That you know it's. 00:27:13
Baseball, basketball. But there is also. 00:27:14
Other kind of sporting. 00:27:18
Yeah, Richard Lopez, I think I mean those those are the things that the city wants to support is. 00:27:20
People do all the work, we want to support them. 00:27:26
And the and the lifestyle school is handled by the 4H office at the extension office. So I know they asked us for if we could. 00:27:28
Lend them tents and stuff so I don't know if we have. 00:27:36
The 10th. 00:27:39
You know that tents. 00:27:41
We're going to have to get a Donald with that, get a request exactly where they want. 00:27:42
Because it takes a little bit to we were just going to ask to see, but I'm going to schedule. 00:27:48
We're not there yet. 00:27:55
Oh, OK, Let's see if we can get some more information about that. 00:27:56
I think it's like in May or June around there. 00:28:01
OK. Because we have to talk to Steve if they're going to have it out there. 00:28:03
Because they could do it in the arena. 00:28:09
Yeah, this. 00:28:11
We need to probably look at that. 00:28:13
Because there's like different stations because we've had it in. 00:28:15
We've had it in 2C and then we've had it in Deming. 00:28:18
And now I'm happy to say that we're going to have it here. Just contact us, we'll help. 00:28:21
See if we can help with that. 00:28:26
How many people you think that we're talking about? 00:28:27
Quite a few, about 200. 00:28:30
300. 00:28:32
Yes. 00:28:35
I know that's a little bit more, but like when we have big events like that because they're way too. 00:28:38
Get to our restaurant and stuff like that. Be open. 00:28:43
Talk to the restaurant. 00:28:48
I think if we go and talk to the restaurants and let them know. 00:28:52
You know, maybe create fires and stuff and let them know if. 00:28:56
That they're open because I know. 00:28:59
For high school rodeo. 00:29:00
Because my daughter rodeo so when we go. 00:29:02
To other towns like. 00:29:05
Chloe, we've gone to. Clovis, we've gone to. 00:29:06
And they you have to like they have the kids have to wear their. 00:29:09
Outfit with her number. 00:29:13
Anywhere they go, so they so. 00:29:15
People know that they come from there. 00:29:17
And they're always open. 00:29:19
Well, maybe. 00:29:22
Cheyenne can, yeah, that's important. 00:29:24
Yeah, it is. 00:29:27
That's a the the restaurants tend to open and close on there. 00:29:28
Kind of. So we need to make sure they know. 00:29:33
They know the schedule. 00:29:35
We can't force them to stay open, but. 00:29:37
I think we should, maybe. 00:29:39
Give them a schedule. 00:29:41
That Cheyenne makes and. 00:29:42
Daryl and Steve make. 00:29:45
So they can have that the owner should have those schedules. 00:29:47
So if they want to be. 00:29:51
OK. Yes, Sir. 00:29:55
Umm, just quickly I'll give you an update on wrestling. I don't. 00:29:57
But we just had our district tournament and. 00:30:02
There were five time. 00:30:05
Undefeated district championship. 00:30:07
Coaching stuff and the kids for the boys. 00:30:09
The girls don't have districts yet, so. 00:30:11
Their regional tournament coming up. 00:30:14
This weekend in Roswell. 00:30:16
The boys next weekend and. 00:30:18
Santa Teresa for the regional and then the state tournament after that, so. 00:30:20
We have our raffle going on for our side by side. We give away side by side last year. 00:30:25
Anybody's interested in that? Let's get a hold of me. We have some tickets left. 00:30:29
We're not drawing until April. 00:30:33
Some rules by the school that we have to follow in order. 00:30:35
Some gambling stuff, I guess, whenever you. 00:30:38
Do a raffle. I don't know. 00:30:41
Linda knows all about that. 00:30:43
But her daughter? 00:30:46
Grandson Joe is. 00:30:50
Yeah, and some good events coming up this summer, but. 00:30:51
Just wanted to recognize the kids and the coaches for that day. 00:30:55
28 and. 00:30:58
Oh, and one or something over the last five years, so. 00:30:59
The coaches and the kids so. 00:31:02
That's it for us. Speaking of Linda. 00:31:05
We're having to fix the septic tank out at the Vegito. 00:31:09
And it's probably $11,000 or something like that. 00:31:13
I know Ruby if you're looking for money up there at. 00:31:17
Yeah, yeah. But is the city money that we're spending? 00:31:28
No, not right now. 00:31:31
For the septic tank. 00:31:33
You know I'm going to go out for emergency funding. 00:31:34
You are OK. 00:31:37
But you've already got it designed and everything, are you? 00:31:38
Yeah, that's just with the design. That's the design. 00:31:41
But I'm just saying that we need. 00:31:59
You know, we need to make sure that we're on top of this and the county needs to. 00:32:01
I've given the county. 00:32:06
The end of the month in February. 00:32:08
And we're going to close the Vegita. 00:32:10
If we don't get money because I'm down $75,000. 00:32:12
On that and I and I and we've applied for the money. 00:32:16
But we can't continue giving services outside the city and having that come from the city coffers. 00:32:19
And the county can't help. 00:32:24
I don't know. I've met with Mr. Gonzalez. 00:32:26
Who's the chairman? 00:32:29
And the and I'm at the new county manager. 00:32:30
And we had a good. 00:32:33
We had a good conversation. 00:32:35
But we basically have got to make a decision. I made that decision, so. 00:32:37
I don't know, Mr. Gonzalez has commented. But I was on a designer. 00:32:42
I mean, there's plenty of septic tanks out there that we probably could just. 00:32:47
Not have to get a design. 00:32:50
If there was another Ave. to. 00:32:52
I know, yeah. 00:32:55
Oh, we got the guy right there. 00:32:56
I have any media. 00:32:58
They're requiring us doing analysis first. 00:32:59
So they got to do a study that she's requiring that. 00:33:02
We have to have it designed. 00:33:05
To that property because you can't go off somebody else's accepting. 00:33:07
For that property. 00:33:10
For that, that's why it's 11,000 bucks. 00:33:11
I want to do that, then we'll find out. 00:33:14
I'll price out what it's going to cost to do the second thing. 00:33:16
And get it done in the room. You'll look for money at that time. 00:33:19
That they're willing to hold off on the city paying any money. 00:33:22
You know, Ruby comes up with some money so we don't have to pay the architect nothing. 00:33:25
Up front and they're they're willing to wait until. 00:33:29
Till the end. 00:33:31
And then we're going to look for the money and then, then we'll look tonight. 00:33:32
Our problem with money is. 00:33:36
If we spend it, we can't get it recouped. 00:33:38
Even if we get a grant. 00:33:41
They won't pass backwards. 00:33:43
And that's the problem, isn't it? 00:33:46
They're a septic tank out there now. 00:33:47
Yes, OK. 00:33:50
Oh. 00:34:01
A new one you have to remarkable, that's why. 00:34:04
I don't know how old I thank you. 00:34:08
But they have a porta potty out there now. 00:34:12
Oh, they are using. 00:34:14
Yeah, well, I mean this this, I'm just trying to bring this up to date. 00:34:18
To let you guys know what but I've sent a letter. 00:34:22
Then I will be, I'll be closing it and then. 00:34:24
The end of February if we can't get funds to. 00:34:27
Continue operating it. 00:34:29
There's about 66 people. 00:34:31
Our family 60 families that you give. 00:34:34
Hotels too. 00:34:37
Yeah. 00:34:40
So. 00:34:41
It's it's being used, but it's not being used by. 00:34:42
People who live in the city. 00:34:45
And we were getting money for it and we were more than happy to run it. 00:34:48
But we've got to have that money in our budget to do it. 00:34:51
So and you spoke with the county manager? 00:34:56
We did. 00:34:58
Had a great meeting, nice guy. 00:34:59
I think we're going to be very good. 00:35:01
It's nicer than the old county manager. The second, the second. 00:35:03
And his name is Joseph on top of that. 00:35:07
As though we victim. 00:35:09
No, no, we're, we're. 00:35:11
For negotiation, yeah. 00:35:14
I think it worked out, you know, at the end of the day. 00:35:16
Even like when the county ran it. 00:35:19
It's a. 00:35:22
Mandated thing by the state that they don't fund. 00:35:22
At one point they actually. 00:35:25
I'm just saying this out loud. 00:35:27
Funded program. 00:35:29
Supposedly the senior program. 00:35:31
But it didn't get to the seniors. 00:35:33
The money went somewhere else. 00:35:36
So that's what happened. But anyway. 00:35:38
And I wouldn't characterize this as a negotiation. 00:35:41
Negotiation. It's one way or the other reason. 00:35:45
And they don't keep something one of the kind work to use is negotiation. 00:35:48
Good words. He's in the City Council right now. 00:35:53
So I just. 00:35:57
I'm sorry, but that you know it's going to get $75,000 out of our budget. 00:35:58
I'd rather spend it on my senior citizen. 00:36:03
Center here rather than out in the county. 00:36:05
And that that's. 00:36:07
You know that's. 00:36:09
Just the way it should be. 00:36:10
I'll negotiate faithfully for the city and for the county. 00:36:12
In the best interest of this. 00:36:15
Even though I'm. 00:36:17
So anyway, any other old news? 00:36:19
Anybody out there? 00:36:22
Over here. 00:36:25
We had a great meeting with the. 00:36:26
Legislature on Thursday. 00:36:28
And we're moving ahead with some few things that are kind of. 00:36:30
They're just in the air. They're not anything that's. 00:36:34
Permanent until March. 00:36:38
I have some pretty good news on the way, but. 00:36:40
If it doesn't turn out, then there won't be. 00:36:43
Would be great. So we're trying to. 00:36:45
Work around that. 00:36:48
And. 00:36:53
That's about all I can say. 00:36:53
We're still asking for the police station, we're asking to get some help, help in Finley. 00:36:56
Ruby went out and got $900,000 on top of all that. 00:37:00
For Finley. So we're still progressing them if you've seen the work we've done over there. 00:37:04
Is still going on. 00:37:08
And so. 00:37:10
Where we've finished the. 00:37:11
Welcome center at the RV park. You should might want to go see that it's got. 00:37:14
Television. 00:37:19
Washer dryers. 00:37:20
Little Lounge has showers. 00:37:22
So that should help people that come to the big events. 00:37:25
Use a RV park. 00:37:28
How we're gonna be working on a? 00:37:30
A house out there. 00:37:32
So we can have a custodian out there. 00:37:33
That's important, I think eventually with all the stuff we've got out there. 00:37:36
Gotta have somebody there. 00:37:39
The project for the short. 00:37:42
It's all it was all done. The roads have been. 00:37:44
Chip, shield and and striped. 00:37:47
Out at Evergreen and Spring. 00:37:49
So the. 00:37:52
There's a couple of. 00:37:53
Chris, there's a couple of. 00:37:55
Terrible trailers out there that I. 00:37:56
That I see there's some getting cleaned up, but some are just a disaster. Unbelievable. 00:37:59
Unbelievable. 00:38:03
One of the houses that we had fixed up eventually got fixed up. 00:38:05
As you get into the fire Academy, that finally is. 00:38:08
Gotten cleared up but. 00:38:11
I hope these trailers Chris get. 00:38:13
Get cleaned up. 00:38:14
We're taking down houses, if you notice, on Peralta and Blue Canyon area. 00:38:16
There's a house down, big old pile of. 00:38:21
Adobe and stuff. So we're continuing to try to get that done. The road projects around the. 00:38:24
Around the. 00:38:29
Courthouse has done. 00:38:31
So that's the Ortera will be the next thing that we're going to try to do. 00:38:33
And that's that's something that. 00:38:37
The short. The short. 00:38:39
Lord correct me if I'm wrong, but we have shores throughout the whole city now. 00:38:41
Right. There's no, no area in the city does not have shore access. 00:38:47
In the city limits, so which was not the case 20 years ago or 15 years ago, so we have. 00:38:52
Sewer access in every part of the. 00:38:57
Every part of the city. 00:38:59
I don't know if there's any other projects. 00:39:01
Going on the. 00:39:08
Police Department, I think the fire department are competent. They're all. 00:39:10
Somebody. 00:39:13
Break into the Nasenda ATM the other day. 00:39:14
And they? 00:39:18
It's evidently a national ring that's going around doing that and they. 00:39:18
They stopped them there. 00:39:22
The guys took off. 00:39:24
So that's that's a. 00:39:26
They're doing a good job with that narcotic arrest also. 00:39:28
I spoke to the Superintendent today. 00:39:33
About their plans for baseball. 00:39:36
We're trying to get that but. 00:39:39
Again our. 00:39:41
People who write the grass got money for sod. 00:39:42
For the softball. 00:39:46
For the women's softball, the. 00:39:47
It'll be the West. 00:39:49
The West facing. 00:39:51
Field. Now we'll get. 00:39:53
New fencing and softball and and sod. 00:39:56
The east facing field, That's going to be hardball. 00:40:01
If we can get the high school to come. 00:40:05
Along with us. 00:40:07
And if we get? 00:40:08
$1,000,000 Grant to put an astroturf. 00:40:10
We won't know until the end of March or the middle of March. 00:40:14
So we're working on. 00:40:17
Trying to get those fields ready for. 00:40:18
For baseball and softball. 00:40:20
For for the. 00:40:22
High school teams. 00:40:24
And hopefully this. 00:40:26
High school would participate in some. 00:40:27
Then they'll have to. 00:40:29
Participate with us on that. 00:40:30
I'm going to talk to the. 00:40:33
New Mexico Tech. 00:40:34
How about the pool? 00:40:36
On the 12th. 00:40:38
And I mentioned that to the Superintendent also, so. 00:40:40
We'll see what tech has to offer because they're evidently closing the pool. 00:40:43
Or it's already closed. 00:40:47
And we have certainly will work with. 00:40:48
Try to get our pool. 00:40:51
To be a year round pool and see what they can offer. 00:40:52
So I'm meeting with them on the. 00:40:55
On the 12th at 10:30. If you want anybody want to drop by, that's fine. 00:40:57
They're more than happy to do that. 00:41:01
To close the pool permanently. It appears that way. 00:41:03
March. 00:41:08
March 1st. 00:41:12
Welcome, Senator Lloyd houses staff. We're just. 00:41:15
Open for people. 00:41:18
Statement we're going to. 00:41:19
We're going to have a code on the door. 00:41:23
OK. 00:41:26
Yeah. 00:41:30
Because the rodeos and if we have everybody over there, they'll tear it up like it. 00:41:40
But it's for this, that's where the people in that department, he's been getting a lot more. 00:41:44
RV then he's been having quite a few people. 00:41:50
Want to go take a shower there though? You can like. 00:41:54
But it's the one that's to the South and to the. 00:41:56
It's locked, but it will face the. 00:42:01
OK. 00:42:04
And yeah, I mean it's. 00:42:05
It's been, it's really nice. 00:42:09
Really nice. 00:42:10
What else did I? 00:42:13
No lawsuits other than the ones we already have. 00:42:15
Donald, anything. 00:42:20
More to add. 00:42:21
Still waiting to start the CDBG project on Cuba Rd. but I think that's in the next month or two. 00:42:23
What's the weather? 00:42:28
But I think that's it. 00:42:32
You guys have the list of. 00:42:33
Projects. If you have any questions about that, let us know. 00:42:35
We're still working on them. 00:42:37
I have to congratulate the staff for. 00:42:39
For the monies that they've been able to. 00:42:42
Accumulate over and above grocery seats. 00:42:44
And literally millions. 00:42:47
Literally millions. 00:42:48
If we were to add them up for the fiscal year, so that's been great. There's lots of stuff out there. 00:42:50
Just have to go try to get it. 00:42:55
You know, so we're going to, we're going to, they're still working on more. So we're still getting there. 00:42:58
OK, that's it. 00:43:04
No, no executive session. 00:43:05
Talk about a secret. 00:43:09
